Studio FAQ's
I offer four studio packages that range from $200-$630, but they are customizable beyond the Studio Headshot Mini Package (should you need a certain, specific, and different combination of images, outfits, or backdrops than are in the suggested packages). Please note, I do not offer any studio portrait sessions for less than what the Studio Headshot Mini Package includes.

I operate out of my home studio (located within the Larkspur building at 304 w. 117th st.) for most portrait and product sessions.
Directions:
- By Subway: The building is a minute walk from the 116th st. (B/C) train stop, and a 7 minute walk from the 116th st. (2/3) train stop as well as the 125th st. (A/B/C/D) train stop.
- By Bus: The M10, M7, M3, and M116 buses have stops in all directions all within two blocks away.
- By Bike: There are spots to lock up your bike street side, but you may also bring your bike up with you in the elevator. There are also two Citibike docking stations within two blocks, one on the northeast corner of 117th st. and Frederick Douglas Blvd. and one on the northwest corner of 115th st. and Frederick Douglas Blvd.
Studio portrait package sessions usually last anywhere from 45-75 minutes, depending on the package. This isn’t always the case as no two sessions are alike (some sessions can be as short as 30 minutes). Package 2 and 3 sessions tend to be a little longer because of the options for different backdrops and wardrobe/look changes, but no session is deliberately longer than it needs to be. You have things to get onto, and once you’re happy with the photos, i’m happy with the photos. Additionally, due to the ongoing pandemic and out of an abundance of caution, I am currently offering fewer sessions consecutively, so there is a little more wiggle room to get the shots you really like without any time crunch. It’ll be great!
I’ve prepared a “Preparing for your Headshots” PDF guide with some helpful information.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Most people don’t like getting their portrait taken, so you’re in good company! Don’t let undue stress get to you, and i’ll direct you as we shoot.
- The goal is to have the images as an accurate representation of you.
- We both want your headshots to turn out as best as possible. We’ll work to that end and make it as enjoyable of an experience as possible.
If you’re wanting some preliminary inspiration, regardless of industry, it’s helpful to google or Pinterest “____ Studio portrait photography” and replace the blank with the field in which you work. You may see some sample images and poses that provide some ideas of what could work. Save them to your phone, or email them to me. I’ll accompany with input as desired.
Actors/Performers
You likely know the sort of roles for which you are usually cast. It’s helpful to be ready with the wardrobe that suits you and your target roles. I suggested bringing 2-3 looks with you. If you have an agent, ask them if they have any specific expectations or requests for the style of your photos. They may have some specifications as well. I want to make sure I capture exactly what you and your representation would like.
Models
Depending on the kind of modeling, I recommend that you come to the shoot with a more conservative level of make-up applied. Many times, agencies will want to see a “beauty portrait” of your (primarily) natural appearance, especially for close up and extreme close-up shots. You can add make up as needed during our session as well. Skin care ahead of the shoot is also essential. See the section on make-up on the PDF guide.
Corporate Employees for Linked In Images
Consider ahead of time whether you want solid color or dynamic backdrops, and if you will want to have some images with or without certain looks, including necklaces, glasses, ear rings, suit coats, ties, etc.
You have some options to choose from here.
The DIY approach: This is by far most common for most of my clients. You know what tends to work, and you’re likely use to doing it your way. If you want your make up done ahead of your session with a professional touch, you can also make an appointment at a store make-up counter the day of your session. Just make sure to allow enough time to arrive on time for your photos as well.
Bring a stylist or friend to the session: Have your own hair and makeup artist in mind? They’re welcome for the session. If you want a hair and makeup artist for an on-location session, please make sure they are aware of their responsibility for makeup setup, completion, and teardown. Keeping in mind the hourly rates for shooting on location, please also encourage the hair and makeup artist to be on time.
HMU services as an additional bundled expense: I unfortunately do not offer hair HMU services with my portrait packages, but if you would like HMU services at the time of your session, I do occasionally partner with a Broadway HMU artist. Please book a session at least 10 days in advance if you would like me to arrange a HMU artist for your session.
Yes, the delivered (downloadable/purchased) portraits are edited or retouched.
However, the watermarked images I provide in a proofing/selection gallery after your session are not edited nor enabled for download. They are raw images shared for the sole purpose of making your selection of images that you would like to purchase for licensed use. Once you make your selections (which can be done in person immediately after the session, if time permits, or later once I send your gallery link to you), I will edit, then upload, and then enable those images for download once the edits are approved and remaining payment is fulfilled. For each studio package, the number of images listed in the package indicates the number of edited images that will be delivered.
Please note: I do not, under any circumstances, provide raw files or the full collection of images to clients. This is because 1) The state of the raw images does not accurately reflect my portfolio or standard of work produced for public use and 2) The authorship rights of the full collection belong to the photographer and licensing (purchase) is required for the permitted use of the images from which the client intends to benefit and use.
I offer studio portraits out of my apartment in South Harlem. Here’s what to expect amenities-wise:
Changing/Restroom: We have a guest restroom in our two bedroom apartment that has a dedicated use for clients and guests.
Mirrors: In addition to the wall mirror in the restroom, there a large wall mirror in the shoot space that is perfect for checking hair (or hair and makeup) before and during the session:
Hair and Makeup Amenities:
- hand-held steamer
- lint rollers
- Facial towels
Seltzer and plain bottled water are complimentary during the session, and I enjoy some music during the session. If you have any special music requests, please share!
This depends on the package.
You may refer to the delivery timeline for each package using the “view rates” buttons on both my home and headshots pages, and on my booking site. The images will not be delivered any later than the contracted timeline of any given package. Please note, however, that the images once approved, will not be enabled for download until the remaining balance of the session has been paid.
Expedited Delivery Option: Should you need your images sooner than the number of business days listed with each package, I do offer expedited editing and delivery of your images within 12-24 hours starting at $30 for the Studio Headshot Mini Package and scaling based on the volume of each package for the amount of time necessary. As I am working to deliver a number of client’s images at a time between client sessions, the expedited delivery option moves the order of your images forward in the job queue.
Most of the common ones.
Square is the platform through which I process most of my transactions as it is also the service through which I provide proposals, estimates, contracts, and invoices. It is easy and secure to fulfill an invoice with a credit card, debit card, or ACH bank transfer through the Square directly. Just like any online store, completing payment through the platform is very easy to fulfill.
Venmo and Cash App is also welcome. Paying a balance with these platforms does not cost me anything, unlike payment fees for PayPal and Square. If you plan to pay digitally and wish to use either of these, I’m happy to accept these as well.
Paypal is another, albeit less-selected, payment options for my clients. My PayPay account is under my LLC name, Simbrock Creative LLC.
Square Gift Cards are another option. If you have a Square gift card, or if someone gifted you a Spencer Imbrock Photography gift card, you may use it towards your payment for your session or edits.
By Cash: Paying by cash is also acceptable in person should you wish to pay a remaining balance at the time of shoot. Again, this is not applicable for deposits as I must receive the deposit ahead of the date of the shoot to secure my time for your shoot.
If you need to postpone an already-scheduled session for which you’ve provided the 50% deposit, I request that you do it more than two days in advance of your session. I ask that you not reschedule a session within two days of your appointment time unless you test positive for COVID-19. If you have to completely cancel your session within two days of your appointment time, there is a non-refundable $50 cancellation fee.

Studio Process Timeline
1. Contact + Schedule
Reach out, or choose your own date and time directly from my booking site! Once we’ve both signed the contract and I’ve received a 50% deposit, everything is a go for your photo session.
2. Meet + Shoot
I’ll check in a day before the shoot with arrival logistics and ways to prepare. Upon arrival, we’ll establish what look you’re going for, and shoot tethered to see the images we’re making.
3. Edit + Approve
Post shoot, I’ll send you a private link to your watermarked gallery (sample here). Then, you’ll choose the number of images in the contract. I’ll retouch and upload the edits for review.
4. Pay + Download
Review the edits. If they’re not perfect yet, direct me with the additional adjustments. Once you like them, i’ll invoice you for the remaining balance. Upon receipt, i’ll enable the images for download!
*Retouched Images include, but are not limited to, the following: Non-permanent blemish removal, stray hair removal, light skin smoothing, eye enhancements (iris, sclera, and catch light brightening, and under-eyelid softening), clothing crease/wrinkle-softening or removal, collar centering, teeth whitening (upon request). All retouched images also include the corrections of the basic edited images.
*Edited Images do not include retouching. Rather, they primarily include image color correction (accurate white balance as well as color-specific saturation and luminance adjustments as desired), shadow and brightness balancing for both the subject and background (as needed), tone curve and contrast adjustments, image/subject sharpening, and any all crops needed.
Portrait rates reflect the editing time and the authorized usage licensing.

If you want a hair and makeup artist for an on-location session, please make sure they are aware of their responsibility for makeup setup, completion, and teardown. HMU services as an additional bundled expense: I unfortunately do not offer hair HMU services with my portrait packages, but if you would like HMU services at the time of your session, I do occasionally partner with a Broadway HMU artist. Please book a session at least 10 days in advance if you would like me to arrange a HMU artist for your session.
Yes, the delivered (downloadable/purchased) portraits are edited or retouched.
However, the watermarked images I provide in a proofing/selection gallery after your session are not edited nor enabled for download. They are raw images shared for the sole purpose of making your selection of images that you would like to purchase for licensed use. Once you make your selections (which can be done in person immediately after the session, if time permits, or later once I send your gallery link to you), I will edit, then upload, and then enable those images for download once the edits are approved and remaining payment is fulfilled. For each studio package, the number of images listed in the package indicates the number of edited images that will be delivered.
Please note: I do not, under any circumstances, provide raw files or the full collection of images to clients. This is because 1) The state of the raw images does not accurately reflect my portfolio or standard of work produced for public use and 2) The authorship rights of the full collection belong to the photographer and licensing (purchase) is required for the permitted use of the images from which the client intends to benefit and use.

Changing/Restroom: We have a guest restroom in our two bedroom apartment that has a dedicated use for clients and guests.
Mirrors: In addition to the wall mirror in the restroom, there a large wall mirror in the shoot space that is perfect for checking hair (or hair and makeup) before and during the session:

Expedited Delivery Option: Should you need your images sooner than the number of business days listed with each package, I do offer expedited editing and delivery of your images within 12-24 hours starting at $30 for the Studio Headshot Mini Package and scaling based on the volume of each package for the amount of time necessary. As I am working to deliver a number of client’s images at a time between client sessions, the expedited delivery option moves the order of your images forward in the job queue.

Square is the platform through which I process most of my transactions as it is also the service through which I provide proposals, estimates, contracts, and invoices. It is easy and secure to fulfill an invoice with a credit card, debit card, or ACH bank transfer through the Square directly. Just like any online store, completing payment through the platform is very easy to fulfill.
Venmo and Cash App is also welcome. Paying a balance with these platforms does not cost me anything, unlike payment fees for PayPal and Square. If you plan to pay digitally and wish to use either of these, I’m happy to accept these as well.
Paypal is another, albeit less-selected, payment options for my clients. My PayPay account is under my LLC name, Simbrock Creative LLC.
Square Gift Cards are another option. If you have a Square gift card, or if someone gifted you a Spencer Imbrock Photography gift card, you may use it towards your payment for your session or edits.
By Cash: Paying by cash is also acceptable in person should you wish to pay a remaining balance at the time of shoot. Again, this is not applicable for deposits as I must receive the deposit ahead of the date of the shoot to secure my time for your shoot.
If you need to postpone an already-scheduled session for which you’ve provided the 50% deposit, I request that you do it more than two days in advance of your session. I ask that you not reschedule a session within two days of your appointment time unless you test positive for COVID-19. If you have to completely cancel your session within two days of your appointment time, there is a non-refundable $50 cancellation fee.

Studio Process Timeline
1. Contact + Schedule
Reach out, or choose your own date and time directly from my booking site! Once we’ve both signed the contract and I’ve received a 50% deposit, everything is a go for your photo session.
2. Meet + Shoot
I’ll check in a day before the shoot with arrival logistics and ways to prepare. Upon arrival, we’ll establish what look you’re going for, and shoot tethered to see the images we’re making.
3. Edit + Approve
Post shoot, I’ll send you a private link to your watermarked gallery (sample here). Then, you’ll choose the number of images in the contract. I’ll retouch and upload the edits for review.
4. Pay + Download
Review the edits. If they’re not perfect yet, direct me with the additional adjustments. Once you like them, i’ll invoice you for the remaining balance. Upon receipt, i’ll enable the images for download!
*Retouched Images include, but are not limited to, the following: Non-permanent blemish removal, stray hair removal, light skin smoothing, eye enhancements (iris, sclera, and catch light brightening, and under-eyelid softening), clothing crease/wrinkle-softening or removal, collar centering, teeth whitening (upon request). All retouched images also include the corrections of the basic edited images.
*Edited Images do not include retouching. Briefly: Studio Packages range from $200-$630. On-location sessions are $180/hour, excluding equipment transportation (cab fare) costs for transporting the studio equipment to and from your location. There may also be additional charges for NYC permits, only as necessary, in certain locales around NYC that don’t permit the use of professional lighting equipment and stands.

Travel time is not expensed, just the cost to get the equipment to-and-from the location of the shoot.
*This includes studio lights, light stands, lighting modifiers (large soft boxes), sandbags to secure stands, laptop and stand tethered to camera to view images during the session, etc.

If getting comfortable in front of the camera takes a little longer, no problem! I build in a little buffer time for each session. Should you find that we make the photos that you want to use in less time and you prefer to use the extra time in the studio package, you can go through the photos we took and make your selections on the spot. This is beneficial for both me and you as it reduces the amount of time in the selection process and assures that your images are in my editing queue in a more timely manner.
In-office portrait sessions may move at faster paces. Staff members are busy. Though both outdoor and in-office sessions need to also account for setup and teardown time, hair (if needed), wardrobe changes, or time for eventual disruptions outdoors (traffic, tourists, onlookers), it’s not a bad idea to plan on for extra time so that the shoot happens unhurriedly. For in-office sessions, booking Setup and teardown take roughly 30 minutes each, so employees do not need to be ready to shoot during the entire time that I am in office. I usually suggest 5-minutes of shoot time per staff member depending on the volume of employees to photograph.
For situational portraits elsewhere I really can’t provide a definitive time other than to suggest you plan for twice the amount of time you think it will take out of your day. That is not to say that the time for which I am on the clock is twice what you should expect to pay. Rather, location work has a few too many variables that I would hate for it to be a tight squeeze for commitments you have before or after a session. Estimates are not necessary for the packages that have fixed rates already established. Payment timelines and available payment methods will be indicated on the estimate/proposal I provide. Invoices for deposits: Once you select a package or approve of a proposal and sign the contract, I will provide an invoice via email for the 50% deposit. The deposit is to secure my time for your shoot and to assure that I will be compensated partially in advance for the work to be completed. As with estimates, I provide invoices through Square.
Invoices for final and completed work: In the same manner, I will provide an invoice for the remaining balance of the package price or totaled hourly work completed. The invoice must be fulfilled before any of the approved edited images are enabled for download.
If you need to postpone an already-scheduled session for which you’ve provided the 50% deposit, I request that you do it more than two days in advance of your session. I ask that you not reschedule a session within two days of your appointment time unless you test positive for COVID-19. If you have to completely cancel your session within two days of your appointment time, there is a non-refundable $50 cancellation fee.

I am happy to provide a receipt as an additional proof of payment for purchases made via Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal. Receipts are auto-generated through Square to your email associated with the transaction.
Rarely do clients prefer to pay with cash for the remaining balance, but if you do prefer to pay with cash for the remaining balance before the selection of your images, I will gladly write up a receipt in person to certify the cash exchange. 👍🏻

Travel within New York city’s five boroughs only requires cab fare to transport my studio equipment around the city. Travel within the tri-state area or beyond is very welcome, but will require negotiation in the contract to cover the additional travel expenses. Travel expenses will not have a price mark-up, and I will provide a link to the travel costs within the proposal. I will also provide receipts for the travel expenses and will refund any difference between the projected and actual costs, if they turn out to be less than expected.

Client referrals (10% refund per referral): If you are a previous client who refers someone who subsequently hires me for their images, you will receive a 10% refund within 7-10 business days following the referral client’s session date, back to the card you used to provide the remaining balance for your session. In order for you to receive this referral discount, the client must provide your name either ahead of or during the studio session, and you must be a past client to receive the refund bonus. You may also receive multiple referral refunds. If you refer 10 clients to me, you will receive 100% refund over time for your original session! ✨

Briefly: Studio Packages range from $200-$630. On-location sessions are $180/hour, excluding equipment transportation (cab fare) costs for transporting the studio equipment to and from your location. There may also be additional charges for NYC permits, only as necessary, in certain locales around NYC that don’t permit the use of professional lighting equipment and stands.

In Studio
I operate out of my home studio (located within the Larkspur building at 304 w. 117th st.) for most portrait and product sessions.
Directions:
- By Subway: The building is a minute walk from the 116th st. (B/C) train stop, and a 7 minute walk from the 116th st. (2/3) train stop as well as the 125th st. (A/B/C/D) train stop.
- By Bus: The M10, M7, M3, and M116 buses have stops in all directions all within two blocks away.
- By Bike: There are spots to lock up your bike street side, but you may also bring your bike up with you in the elevator. There are also two Citibike docking stations within two blocks, one on the northeast corner of 117th st. and Frederick Douglas Blvd. and one on the northwest corner of 115th st. and Frederick Douglas Blvd.
I also travel to offices, businesses, and other on-location destinations. Expenses for taxi/Uber fare for the transportation of our studio equipment* on-location will be provided in an estimate for the session, and exact totals (with receipts provided) added to the remaining balance due for the session. Travel time is not expensed, just the cost to get the equipment to-and-from the location of the shoot.
*This includes studio lights, light stands, lighting modifiers (large soft boxes), sandbags to secure stands, laptop and stand tethered to camera to view images during the session, etc.
On Location
If you have somewhere specific in mind that you would like to shoot, please let me know via email or in the contact form on my contact page. I may need to acquire a city permit to use what the city specifies as professional lighting equipment, including light stands, there. Please specify as much as possible in your request. Thank you!

This depends largely on your needs and the kind of shoot.
In-studio portrait sessions may last anywhere between 30-90 minutes depending on your needs in regards to the number of backdrops, wardrobe changes, etc. It may take a few minutes more or less! If getting comfortable in front of the camera takes a little longer, no problem! I build in a little buffer time for each session. Should you find that we make the photos that you want to use in less time and you prefer to use the extra time in the studio package, you can go through the photos we took and make your selections on the spot. This is beneficial for both me and you as it reduces the amount of time in the selection process and assures that your images are in my editing queue in a more timely manner.
In-office portrait sessions may move at faster paces. Staff members are busy. Though both outdoor and in-office sessions need to also account for setup and teardown time, hair (if needed), wardrobe changes, or time for eventual disruptions outdoors (traffic, tourists, onlookers), it’s not a bad idea to plan on for extra time so that the shoot happens unhurriedly. For in-office sessions, booking Setup and teardown take roughly 30 minutes each, so employees do not need to be ready to shoot during the entire time that I am in office. I usually suggest 5-minutes of shoot time per staff member depending on the volume of employees to photograph.
For situational portraits elsewhere I really can’t provide a definitive time other than to suggest you plan for twice the amount of time you think it will take out of your day. That is not to say that the time for which I am on the clock is twice what you should expect to pay. Rather, location work has a few too many variables that I would hate for it to be a tight squeeze for commitments you have before or after a session. If I have a clearer grasp of the scope of your project or session’s needs, I can provide a much clearer answer. Please reach out and I can let you know.
Studio portrait package sessions usually last anywhere from 45-75 minutes, depending on the package. This isn’t always the case as no two sessions are alike (some sessions can be as short as 30 minutes). Package 2 and 3 sessions tend to be a little longer because of the options for different backdrops and wardrobe/look changes, but no session is deliberately longer than it needs to be. You have things to get onto, and once you’re happy with the photos, i’m happy with the photos. Additionally, due to the ongoing pandemic and out of an abundance of caution, I am currently offering fewer sessions consecutively, so there is a little more wiggle room to get the shots you really like without any time crunch. It’ll be great!

I want to make sure I capture exactly what you and your representation would like.
Models
Depending on the kind of modeling, I recommend that you come to the shoot with a more conservative level of make-up applied. Many times, agencies will want to see a “beauty portrait” of your (primarily) natural appearance, especially for close up and extreme close-up shots. You can add make up as needed during our session as well. Skin care ahead of the shoot is also essential. See the section on make-up on the PDF guide.
Corporate Employees and Academics
Consider ahead of time whether you want solid color or dynamic backdrops in your office space, and where (if in your or your company’s office) the shoot will take place (Conference rooms are a safe bet for setting up the studio lights for solid color backdrops). Please make sure to reserve the necessary space ahead of the shoot so that we do not run into any conflicts on the day of the shoot. It is also SO helpful to know ahead of time, with as specific of estimates as possible, roughly how large the available space is. A “big conference room” is a relative term depending on the client. Please be mindful of this as I prepare for the shoot. A minimum 15 sq. foot space is ideal

The DIY approach: This is by far most common for the majority of my clients. You know what you like and you’re used to doing it anyway. If you want your make up done ahead of your session with a professional touch, you can also make an appointment at a make-up counter or store for the day of your session. Just make sure to allow enough time to arrive on time for your photo session as well.
Bring a stylist or friend to the session: Have your own stylists or hair and make-up (HMU) artist in mind? They are also very welcome to in-studio sessions. If you want your own stylist for on-location sessions, please make sure they are aware of their responsibility for make-up setup, completion, and teardown. Keeping in mind the hourly rates for shooting on-location, please also encourage an external stylist or hair and make-up artist to be timely as well.
HMU services as an additional bundled expense: I unfortunately do not offer hair HMU services with with my studio portrait packages and standard rates, but if you would like HMU services at the time of your session, I do partner with a Broadway HMU artist on-demand who assures that your make-up and hair look great before the shoot and at all times during the shoot. Please reach out for her current rates.
HMU for multi-employee companies: If you would like to bundle HMU services additionally, as described above, you may also do so for group sessions. Either way, in an effort to keep our shoot on schedule I encourage each employee to make a quick visit to the restroom mirror before they are on deck for their portrait. If it appears that hair falls in an unpleasant way in your portrait, I will do my best to spot-check as we shoot, but that is much better done with someone focused specifically on HMU is present.

I offer studio portraits out of my apartment in South Harlem. Here’s what to expect amenities-wise:
Changing/Restroom: We have a guest restroom in our two bedroom apartment that has a dedicated use for clients and guests.
Mirrors: In addition to the wall mirror in the restroom, there a large wall mirror in the shoot space that is perfect for checking hair (or hair and makeup) before and during the session:

Yes, the delivered (downloadable/purchased) images are edited.
However, the watermarked images provided in a proofing/selection gallery are not edited nor enabled for download. Those raw images are for the sole purpose of making your selection of images that you would like to license (pay for permission to use). Once you make your selections, I edit those images, then deliver them digitally, and then enable them for download only once the edits are approved and payment is rendered.
Delivered images for studio packages: For each studio package, the number of images listed in the package indicates the number of edited images that will be delivered. Following the session, I will provide you a private like to your selection gallery of images from which you select the images in the package. I upload the edited files to a new tab in your gallery. Once you approve the edits, the edited images will be enabled for direct download in print resolution and screen resolution file sizes to be used accordingly for print and digital/online purposes. Please note that the watermarked images in the selection gallery are are low resolution only.
Delivered images for in-office and on-location sessions: In-office and on-location sessions do not have a prescribed number of images as the sessions are hourly rates rather than packaged prices. You choose how many photos you want to license, which I will edit and deliver. The process is the same from that point.
Please note: I never, under any circumstances, provide raw files or the full collection of images to clients. This is because 1) The state of the raw images does not accurately reflect my portfolio or standard of work produced for public use and 2) The authorship rights of the full collection belong to the photographer and licensing (purchase) is required for the permitted use of the images from which the client intends to benefit and use.

Travel within New York city’s five boroughs only requires cab fare to transport my studio equipment around the city. Travel within the tri-state area or beyond is very welcome, but will require negotiation in the contract to cover the additional travel expenses. Travel expenses will not have a price mark-up, and I will provide a link to the travel costs within the proposal. I will also provide receipts for the travel expenses and will refund any difference between the projected and actual costs, if they turn out to be less than expected.

Client referrals (10% refund per referral): If you are a previous client who refers someone who subsequently hires me for their images, you will receive a 10% refund within 7-10 business days following the referral client’s session date, back to the card you used to provide the remaining balance for your session. In order for you to receive this referral discount, the client must provide your name either ahead of or during the studio session, and you must be a past client to receive the refund bonus. You may also receive multiple referral refunds. If you refer 10 clients to me, you will receive 100% refund over time for your original session! ✨

Briefly: Studio Packages range from $200-$630. On-location sessions are $180/hour, excluding equipment transportation (cab fare) costs for transporting the studio equipment to and from your location. There may also be additional charges for NYC permits, only as necessary, in certain locales around NYC that don’t permit the use of professional lighting equipment and stands.
In more detail: Please refer to the rates for individuals and groups, both for in-studio and on-location sessions on my booking site, or to my home or headshot pages to find the specific studio package that might fit your budget and needs. If you are multi-employee company or are needing headshots for multiple people, you can send me an email here, or for even faster communication, I recommend using the “Complete this form” button on the “In Office/On Location” section of my home page. The rate for in-office and on-location sessions is $180/hour. As with other on-location sessions, the rate for in-office sessions excludes the cost of equipment transportation (cab fare) of the studio equipment to and from your office.
I offer four studio packages that range from $200-$630, but they are customizable beyond the Studio Headshot Mini Package (should you need a certain, specific, and different combination of images, outfits, or backdrops than are in the suggested packages). In Studio

I also travel to offices, businesses, and other on-location destinations. Expenses for taxi/Uber fare for the transportation of our studio equipment* on-location will be provided in an estimate for the session, and exact totals (with receipts provided) added to the remaining balance due for the session. Travel time is not expensed, just the cost to get the equipment to-and-from the location of the shoot.
*This includes studio lights, light stands, lighting modifiers (large soft boxes), sandbags to secure stands, laptop and stand tethered to camera to view images during the session, etc.

If you have somewhere specific in mind that you would like to shoot, please let me know via email or in the contact form on my contact page. I may need to acquire a city permit to use what the city specifies as professional lighting equipment, including light stands, there. Please specify as much as possible in your request. Thank you!

This depends largely on your needs and the kind of shoot.
In-studio portrait sessions may last anywhere between 30-90 minutes depending on your needs in regards to the number of backdrops, wardrobe changes, etc. It may take a few minutes more or less! If getting comfortable in front of the camera takes a little longer, no problem! I build in a little buffer time for each session. Should you find that we make the photos that you want to use in less time and you prefer to use the extra time in the studio package, you can go through the photos we took and make your selections on the spot. This is beneficial for both me and you as it reduces the amount of time in the selection process and assures that your images are in my editing queue in a more timely manner.
In-office portrait sessions may move at faster paces. Staff members are busy. Though both outdoor and in-office sessions need to also account for setup and teardown time, hair (if needed), wardrobe changes, or time for eventual disruptions outdoors (traffic, tourists, onlookers), it’s not a bad idea to plan on for extra time so that the shoot happens unhurriedly. For in-office sessions, booking Setup and teardown take roughly 30 minutes each, so employees do not need to be ready to shoot during the entire time that I am in office. I usually suggest 5-minutes of shoot time per staff member depending on the volume of employees to photograph.
For situational portraits elsewhere I really can’t provide a definitive time other than to suggest you plan for twice the amount of time you think it will take out of your day. That is not to say that the time for which I am on the clock is twice what you should expect to pay. Rather, location work has a few too many variables that I would hate for it to be a tight squeeze for commitments you have before or after a session. If I have a clearer grasp of the scope of your project or session’s needs, I can provide a much clearer answer. Please reach out and I can let you know.
Studio portrait package sessions usually last anywhere from 45-75 minutes, depending on the package. This isn’t always the case as no two sessions are alike (some sessions can be as short as 30 minutes). Package 2 and 3 sessions tend to be a little longer because of the options for different backdrops and wardrobe/look changes, but no session is deliberately longer than it needs to be. You have things to get onto, and once you’re happy with the photos, i’m happy with the photos. Additionally, due to the ongoing pandemic and out of an abundance of caution, I am currently offering fewer sessions consecutively, so there is a little more wiggle room to get the shots you really like without any time crunch. It’ll be great!

- Most people don’t like getting their portrait taken, so you’re in good company. Don’t let undue stress get to you, and i’ll direct you as we shoot!
- The goal is to have the images as an accurate representation of you.
- We both want your headshots to turn out as best as possible. We’ll work to that end and make it as enjoyable of an experience as possible.
If you’re wanting some preliminary inspiration, regardless of industry, it’s helpful to google or Pinterest “____ Studio portrait photography” and replace the blank with the field in which you work. You may see some sample images and poses that provide some ideas of what could work. Save them to your phone, or email them to me. I’ll accompany with input as desired.

You likely know the sort of roles for which you are usually cast. It’s helpful to be ready with the wardrobe that suits you and your target roles. I suggested bringing 2-3 looks with you. If you have an agent, ask them if they have any specific expectations or requests for the style of your photos. They may have some specifications as well. I want to make sure I capture exactly what you and your representation would like.
Models
Depending on the kind of modeling, I recommend that you come to the shoot with a more conservative level of make-up applied. Many times, agencies will want to see a “beauty portrait” of your (primarily) natural appearance, especially for close up and extreme close-up shots. You can add make up as needed during our session as well. Skin care ahead of the shoot is also essential. See the section on make-up on the PDF guide.
Corporate Employees and Academics
Consider ahead of time whether you want solid color or dynamic backdrops in your office space, and where (if in your or your company’s office) the shoot will take place (Conference rooms are a safe bet for setting up the studio lights for solid color backdrops). Please make sure to reserve the necessary space ahead of the shoot so that we do not run into any conflicts on the day of the shoot. It is also SO helpful to know ahead of time, with as specific of estimates as possible, roughly how large the available space is. A “big conference room” is a relative term depending on the client. Please be mindful of this as I prepare for the shoot. A minimum 15 sq. foot space is ideal

Consider ahead of time whether you want solid color or dynamic backdrops, and if you will want to have some images with or without certain looks, including necklaces, glasses, ear rings, suit coats, ties, etc.

The DIY approach: This is by far most common for the majority of my clients. You know what you like and you’re used to doing it anyway. If you want your make up done ahead of your session with a professional touch, you can also make an appointment at a make-up counter or store for the day of your session. Just make sure to allow enough time to arrive on time for your photo session as well.
Bring a stylist or friend to the session: Have your own stylists or hair and make-up (HMU) artist in mind? They are also very welcome to in-studio sessions. If you want your own stylist for on-location sessions, please make sure they are aware of their responsibility for make-up setup, completion, and teardown. Keeping in mind the hourly rates for shooting on-location, please also encourage an external stylist or hair and make-up artist to be timely as well.
HMU services as an additional bundled expense: I unfortunately do not offer hair HMU services with with my studio portrait packages and standard rates, but if you would like HMU services at the time of your session, I do partner with a Broadway HMU artist on-demand who assures that your make-up and hair look great before the shoot and at all times during the shoot. Please reach out for her current rates.
HMU for multi-employee companies: If you would like to bundle HMU services additionally, as described above, you may also do so for group sessions. Either way, in an effort to keep our shoot on schedule I encourage each employee to make a quick visit to the restroom mirror before they are on deck for their portrait. If it appears that hair falls in an unpleasant way in your portrait, I will do my best to spot-check as we shoot, but that is much better done with someone focused specifically on HMU is present.

I offer studio portraits out of my apartment in South Harlem. Here’s what to expect amenities-wise:
Changing/Restroom: We have a guest restroom in our two bedroom apartment that has a dedicated use for clients and guests.
Mirrors: In addition to the wall mirror in the restroom, there a large wall mirror in the shoot space that is perfect for checking hair (or hair and makeup) before and during the session:

Seltzer and plain bottled water are complimentary during the session, and I enjoy some music during the session. If you have any special music requests, please share!
Yes, the delivered (downloadable/purchased) images are edited.
However, the watermarked images provided in a proofing/selection gallery are not edited nor enabled for download. Those raw images are for the sole purpose of making your selection of images that you would like to license (pay for permission to use). Once you make your selections, I edit those images, then deliver them digitally, and then enable them for download only once the edits are approved and payment is rendered.
Delivered images for studio packages: For each studio package, the number of images listed in the package indicates the number of edited images that will be delivered. Following the session, I will provide you a private like to your selection gallery of images from which you select the images in the package. I upload the edited files to a new tab in your gallery. Once you approve the edits, the edited images will be enabled for direct download in print resolution and screen resolution file sizes to be used accordingly for print and digital/online purposes. Please note that the watermarked images in the selection gallery are are low resolution only.
Delivered images for in-office and on-location sessions: In-office and on-location sessions do not have a prescribed number of images as the sessions are hourly rates rather than packaged prices. You choose how many photos you want to license, which I will edit and deliver. The process is the same from that point.
Please note: I never, under any circumstances, provide raw files or the full collection of images to clients. This is because 1) The state of the raw images does not accurately reflect my portfolio or standard of work produced for public use and 2) The authorship rights of the full collection belong to the photographer and licensing (purchase) is required for the permitted use of the images from which the client intends to benefit and use.

As I am working to deliver a number of client’s images at a time between client sessions, the expedited delivery option moves the order of your images forward in the job queue.

This is very much for your expectations and protection as much as mine. The contract holds me accountable to deliver the product in a timely manner and under the terms and conditions to which we agree. It assures that you get the product at the quality that is promised. It assures me that I will be compensated for my time and work I have invested in the session Please note that work will only begin on your project once the digital contract is signed and the 50% deposit* of the package price (or the first hour for an hourly session) is provided. The deposit secures your requested time slot so that it is not booked by someone else. Finally the contract lays out liability protections for both the business and the client in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.
*For the exact amount of the 50% deposit, please refer to the “deposit due at booking” amount for each package in the rates on my home page, headshots page, and on my booking site.

Estimates for custom sessions: For custom projects that are outside the scope of the packages, I will create and send an estimate via Square following our initial contact. Estimates are not necessary for the packages that have fixed rates already established. Payment timelines and available payment methods will be indicated on the estimate/proposal I provide. Please note the payment timelines on the proposals as well.
Invoices for deposits: Once you select a package or approve of a proposal and sign the contract, I will provide an invoice via email for the 50% deposit. The deposit is to secure my time for your shoot and to assure that I will be compensated partially in advance for the work to be completed. As with estimates, I provide invoices through Square.
Invoices for final and completed work: In the same manner, I will provide an invoice for the remaining balance of the package price or totaled hourly work completed. The invoice must be fulfilled before any of the approved edited images are enabled for download.
If you need to postpone an already-scheduled session for which you’ve provided the 50% deposit, I request that you do it more than two days in advance of your session. I ask that you not reschedule a session within two days of your appointment time unless you test positive for COVID-19. If you have to completely cancel your session within two days of your appointment time, there is a non-refundable $50 cancellation fee.

I am happy to provide a receipt as an additional proof of payment for purchases made via Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal. Receipts are auto-generated through Square to your email associated with the transaction.
